Sport Climbing

An increasingly popular aspect of climbing is sport climbing, where routes are protected by bolts placed in the rock. This allows the climber to concentrate mainly on the technical and physical aspects of climbing without worrying too much about the protection or falling off.
Dorset has the largest number of sport routes in a single area in the country throughout the whole grade range.

New Sport Climber - 2 days, 1:4 ratio. £100 per person.
Begin sport climbing at one of the many excellent venues either on Portland or the Isle of Purbeck. This course provides an introduction to the basic skills and techniques involved in this sport.

Moving Outside (sport) - 2 days, 1:4 ratio day one and 1:2 ratio day two. £150 per person.
This is for individuals who are competent climbers and belayers at a climbing wall but have never climbed outside. This will include a recap of some basics such as belaying and simple climbing techniques but will move quickly onto more advanced climbing skills used outside. The higher ratio on day two allows more specific teaching to individual needs as well as visiting different venues.

Advanced Sport Climber - 2 days, 1:2 ratio. £150 per person.
Have you been sport climbing for a while and want to visit more interesting Portland and Swanage venues? You may be unsure about access, finding the routes or perhaps you require some performance coaching to improve your personal climbing.
These two days will allow you to explore areas you would not normally venture to, try routes in different areas with different characteristics and learn new climbing methods and techniques.
